Year 7
Aims:
To develop students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in Spanish.

Topics:
Letters and numbers, introductions and basic personal details, descriptions of friends and family, daily routine, school and home.

Possible homework tasks and useful sites:
Cover book, learn vocabulary, comprehension tasks, learn a script, access websites to consolidate learning (e.g. time)

Year 8
Aims:
To build upon the teaching and learning that has taken place in Year 7 through the development of Spanish vocabulary, language structures and use of the future tense, allowing students to access more advanced skills. Students aim to develop their confidence and fluency in the language.

Topics:
Students study four main topics namely Free Time, My Town, Holidays and Food. Grammar is fully integrated into teaching and learning and it is a fully interactive course. Focus is placed on pronunciation and developing a range of vocabulary linked to the different topic areas.  There will be opportunities for independent learning via a range of internet sites and an insight into the culture and traditions of a variety of Spanish-speaking countries.

Year 9
Aims:
To focus on four further topics during Year 9 which serve as a foundation for the GCSE Spanish language course. The Year 9 course introduces students to two different past tenses, allowing them to access foundation level GCSE tasks. Students continue to develop their confidence and fluency in the language.

Topics:
The Year 9 course covers the topics of Healthy Living & Lifestyle, Work and future plans, Free time and aspects of Hispanic culture. Students have ample opportunity to access this in the way of films, short clips, original magazine and newspaper excerpts to understand the practical and functional aspects of language. They are able to extend their knowledge of Spanish-speaking communities and cultures.

Grammar worksheets, extended writing tasks with support material, comprehension tasks, role play practice.

Year 10
Aims:
To develop confidence and fluency in Spanish.

Topics:
Edexcel syllabus over 2 years.

Final exams are taken at the end of Year 11 with an equal weighting of 25% across the 4 key skills of writing, speaking, listening and reading. Topics studied include lifestyle, home and environment, media and culture, and sport and leisure. The Spanish course offers a lively, communicative approach, underpinned by a clear grammatical progression (content same as above).

Weekly vocab revision.
Extended writing tasks.
Revision for regular assessments (speaking and writing)
Grammar exercises.
Comprehension tasks.
Independent study.

Year 11
Aims:
To develop confidence and fluency in Spanish.

Topics:
