Year 6 were lucky to join a Puffin Virtually Live event today, organised by Mrs Willoughby, Huntcliff’s librarian, and the Year 6 teachers.
The event was to celebrate the new book by former art teacher turned successful author Cathy Cassidy. Called ‘The Looking Glass Girl’ is a reimagining of the famous Alice in Wonderland story by Lewis Carroll, which is celebrating it’s 150th anniversary this year, studied recently at the campus as part of World Book Week culminating in a fancy dress day.
Children from all around the world took part, including Argentina, India, and the USA as well as the UK. In front of a live audience dressed in costume, actors performed a three minute version of the story. The author read excerpts from her new book and drew a fabulous White Rabbit, she also cooked jam tarts with a group of children in her own kitchen. She also answered questions both from the audience and live tweets.
Alice in Wonderland has the distinction of being the first ever book written entirely for children, paving the way for the wonderful books children now enjoy.
The pupils commented on how good the session was and are looking forward to similar sessions with other authors.
